Lately, I have started to feel old. Maybe it’s because the girls are slowly destroying me, or maybe I am getting old. Either way, I no longer feel like I am in my twenties any more – and that scares me. A few nights ago, I looked at myself in the mirror and didn’t like what I saw. I had to change something but I needed a goal.
I recently started running again. The Nike Run Club app has really improved and it has a lot of simple guided runs to get you moving again. I felt great after I finished their “Get Started Collection” and as I stared at my broken body in the mirror, it came to me: I want to run a half marathon.
I am 20-30 pounds overweight, weak, and out of shape. Running 21 kilometers* (“The Run to 21”, get it?) is no small task. Running a 5k is probably out of the question right now. I am going to need a lot of work to get that far so, my goal is to run an official, timed half marathon by the end of 2019.
I have one year to put myself back together again and prove that I am still 21 (or at least feel like it).
- I measure runs in kilometers, 21k = 13.1mi
What I’ve Done So Far
I started my NRC half marathon plan this week. The runs were short and mostly easy:
